Glorious Goodwood is into its fourth day with the feature race on Thursday being the competitive Betfred Mile at 3.15.

Here we take a look at that race and the rest of the live Channel 4 Racing, providing some free betting tips for the day.

1.55 – Coutts Glorious Stakes (Group 3) 1m4f

Selection: AIKEN @ 4/1 with Ladbrokes

Made great progress last season winning his first three starts to make it six in a row at the time. A Group 2 winner in France he wasn’t disgraced against some smart rivals in the Hardwicke Stakes last season and went very close to winning the Irish St Leger. When last seen he was narrowly denied by former Ascot Gold Cup winner Rite Of Passage on British Champions Day. He has not raced this season yet and would probably prefer softer ground but does have form on better ground and looking at his rivals, there is not an obvious opponent whose speed will catch him out. Won fresh in the past and if the ground does not get too quick for him he ought to go well.

2.30 – Bonhams Thoroughbred Stakes (Group 3) 1m

Selection: MONTIRIDGE @ 6/4 with Betfred

Lightly raced but already performed to a high level; he was runner up to subsequent Irish Derby winner Trading Leather as a 2 year old and is a dual Listed winner. He was narrowly denied in the Jersey Stakes at Ascot before comfortably winning a Listed race at Newmarket last time out and he remains firmly on the upgrade. Hughes chooses to ride him over Baltic Knight who could provide his biggest threat and there was little to separate those tow when they ran against each other last season. However Montiridge leaves the impression his best is yet to come and it will be disappointing were he not to go very close here.

3.05 – Betfred Mile (Heritage Handicap) (Class 2) 1m

E/W Selection: STIRRING BALLAD @ 8/1 with Betfred

A competitive renewal with several progressive types looking to hold strong chances. Cape Peron ran a fair race at Royal Ascot and should be there or thereabouts of the ground does not dry out too much, whilst Wentworth for the in-form Hannon team has been running well and can be expected to get involved again. The selection ran no sort of race at Royal Ascot but that run is best excused as he was switched across at the start from a poor draw and found it difficult to get involved. That run aside he has looked progressive, running well in Listed events and only 8lb above his last winning mark. A previous winner at Goodwood he is well drawn and the latest run aside he ought to be in with a decent chance.

3.40 – Betfred King George Stakes (Group 2) 5f

E/W Selection: MASAMAH @ 12/1 with Ladbrokes

Now 7 years of age but has remained in good form this season for a new yard, gaining a deserved success in a valuable handicap at Ascot last time out. A winner of this race back in 2011, he was a close third behind Ortensia in last season’s renewal and his course record is a positive. A consistent performer he looks sure to run his race and in good heart recently, including with the cheek-pieces on last time out, he can be competitive.
