Glorious Goodwood Day 1: 3.05 Lennox Stakes Latest Odds and Race Preview

Glorious Goodwood kicks of this week and the feature race on day 1 is the Group 2 Lennox Stakes over 7f. Here we analyse the runners and provide a best bet for the race.

Aljamaaheer has ran well this season not missing the frame in 4 attempts, including two Group 1’s, and got just reward for his performances when winning the Group 2 Summer Mile at Ascot last time out. He drops back in trip here to tackle the 7f which should not inconvenience him too much, however on his last start over 7f he was beaten by the re-opposing Producer. Joint top-rated in the field, he carries a 4lb penalty but has obvious claims despite the fact his best form has come over a mile. He has shaped as if he could get further so drop back in trip not an obvious move for all he shows speed, and at the prices we will leave him alone despite his good record at Goodwood.

Fencing has similarly kept good company during his career, competing respectably at Group level behind the likes of Camelot. He returned this season with a taking success at Ascot before a lesser effort in the Lockinge back in May. Off the track since then but has run well on the back of a break before and if he can repeat his first run this season he will have a good chance.

Producer is the choice of Richard Hughes and he has been in good form this season, winning twice including the Criterion Stakes last time out. He beat favourite Aljamaaheer at Leicester off level weights and in receipt of 4lb from that rival here he holds obvious claims. Remains in good form and is a Group 3 winner at this track before; ought to be there or thereabouts.

Caspar Netcher is the joint top rated horse in the field and returns to the track after an aborted stud career. A dual Group 2 winner, the pick of his form arguably makes him the one to beat; he finished under 2L behind Excelebration in a Group 1 in France. Hard top know exactly what form he is in on the back of a break but a case can be made for him running well.

Three year olds have a good record in the race, winning 4 of the last 6 renewals and the two who line up here both hold decent chances. GARSWOOD bolted up on his first start of the season at Newmarket before finishing 7th in the Guineas, stamina seemingly stretched over a mile. Was firmly back on track last time out when 4th over this trip in the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot. He stuck to his task well after seeing more daylight than was ideal a good way out and the race has worked out okay. A strong traveller, the Ryan Moore booking catches the eye and he is another who holds sound claims in an open race.

Professor has won three races in a row and is firmly on the upgrade. Passed over by Richard Hughes for stablemate Producer but by no means out of things judges on recent performances; this a better contest though
