Wednesday's final batch of last 16 Champions League fixtures see's Premier League leaders Chelsea make the unenviable trip across Europe to face a Galatasaray side sporting a very familiar face. The match is live on Sky Sports and we have some free football betting tips for you.
Unlike the two British teams last week, a top place finish in their group meant Chelsea avoided many of the big guns left in the competition. Providing they can successfully run the gauntlet of dead chickens and flares at Istanbul airport, Jose Mourinho's men will surely be favourites to take a positive result back to Stamford Bridge. However, one man looking to stop them will be former favourite Didier Drogba who now plies his trade with the Turkish Champions.
Heading in to the game Galatasaray are currently on an eleven game unbeaten run in their domestic league, albeit with a handful of draws. Their progress in the Champions League came at the expense on Juventus thanks to a last gasp Wesley Sneijder goal, although a mere seven points and a goal difference of -6 is hardly a record to shout from the roof tops. Chelsea on the other hand won their group fairly comfortably despite a couple of poor losses, and now look in very solid form in the Premier League. Although a lot of their performances have been fairly unremarkable, they are nevertheless keeping their opponents out at the back and now boast the best defensive record in their respective league.
Browsing the early prices, Galatasaray can be backed at 10/3 with the draw at 12/5. Chelsea are available at a risky 21/20. Jose Mourinho will be perfectly happy with a score draw on Wednesday, so his side certainly won't be going all guns blazing. As well as this, he faces old Premiership favourite Roberto Mancini in the opposite dugout. A championship winner in England with many years experience of the British game. Perhaps the most interesting statistic though, is the fact Galatasaray have scored in every home game in the league and Europe this season, including ten in the last three matches. With all this in mind back the draw outright with Coral at 12/5 and a further 2-2 draw with Betfred at 14/1. Although this is not the longest price, the bookmaker offers a promotion where a 1-1 draw will result in a refund.
Looking at a potential source of goals, Didier Drogba seems the obvious choice for those footballing romanticists out there. Given the amount of times players tend to score against their old clubs, this wouldn't be the worst bet in the world. However, by his own high standards, Drogba hasn't been prolific this year and has yet to be a first scorer, so it is not a bet without risk. Nevertheless, back him to score anytime at 3/1 with Paddy Power and also top scorer Burak Yilmaz to notch first with Betfred's DDHH offer at 15/2. Five of his twelve league goals in the league this year have been the first of the match.
