French Open Tennis 2014 Betting Tips and Predictions

The Second tennis Grand Slam of the year is upon us and we have free French Open 2014 betting tips.

Following the upset at the Australian Open at the start of the year when Stanislas Wawrinka lifted the title, we seem to be back on more familiar territory with Rafael Nadal winning eight of the last nine competitions. The other occasion in 2009 saw the clay court expert carrying an injury and crashing out to Robin Soderling in the fourth round.

For once though, with many bookmakers he is not the favorite with Novak Djokovic taking that honor. This is most likely down to the fact that the two met in the final of the Rome Masters 1000 event just a couple of weeks ago and Djokovic came from a set down to win 2-1.

The odds have Djokovic priced at 6/4 with Ladbrokes while Nadal is available at 15/8 with Betfred. Its mad to think that considering how good Nadal is on clay that he isn’t favorite. He has lost 3 matches on clay this year, usually unheard of. Friday’s draw made things trickier still for Nadal with him potentially having to face Almagro, Ferrer and Wawrinka on route to the final. Almagro and Ferrer have both defeat Nadal recently while Wawrinka showed his class in winning in Australia.

Novak Djokovic’s route to the final could see him clash with Roger Federer in the Semi-Finals but before that has a far easier route than Nadal. It is clear why Djokovic is favorite with Rafa’s route and his recent victory but it is usually a different story over 5 sets on clay. The two have met at Rolland Garros 5 times before and Nadal has triumphed every time.

With Nadal and Djokovic the most likely final pairing and with this form in mind, I do like the look of Rafa to win, especially at 15/8, a really good price for a great clay court player.

On to the Women’s side of the draw then and only one name really in contention on that side and that is Serena Williams. Despite a tricky looking draw which could see here take on sister Venus, Sharapova and Radwanska on the route to the final, she is still priced at 5/4 with William Hill. This isn’t much of a surprise considering how good she looked in Rome defeating clay expert Sam Errani 6-0, 6-3 in the final.

There is little value to be had with Serena but I perhaps fancy putting her in a double with Nadal which pays a very nice 6/1 with Betfred.

The bottom half of the Women’s draw is a little bit more open with Li Na the favorite to take on Serena in the final but Quarter three caught my eye for value. Simona Halep is the favorite to win it at 2/1 with Betfred and she constitutes great value. The 23 year old Romanian is at a career high World Number 4 and has impressed of late. She was a runner up in Madrid and retired in Rome due to injury but has also reached the semis in Indian Wells and won in Doha. Injuries have hindered her but if she stays fit she can cause real problems.

Here biggest threats in the Quarter will be Ivanovic and Kvitova but she recently beat them both in Madrid and Kvitova has struggled for form, losing to Zheng in Rome. Halep will fancy a semi-final spot.
