Free US Open Betting Tips– Each Way – First Round Leader

Looks like the weather may be improving for the 4 days of the 2013 US Open but according to Weather.com there is still a 50% chance of rain/thunderstorms during Thursday’s first round, so we will factor that into these US Open first round leader betting tips.

Have gone for two early starters, two late starters with the weather a little unpredictable it seems wise to have a couple of runners in each half of the draw.  Right, let’s go-

Phil Mickelson – 28/1 EW (Early Starter)

A bit of a flyer in this first suggestion, but I’m going along with the theory that Phil will be relaxed coming into the US Open, especially as he has decided to nip home for his daughter’s birthday, pre Round 1 and fly back the night before.  I have seen people suggest that jetlag will be a factor; I think that will be far outweighed by the fact he will have lower expectations of Rd1 and will hopefully have a relaxed attitude and not try too hard.   Could go either way, tear it up or throw the teddies out of the pram if he is indeed too tired, but I have hope!

Ian Poulter – 66/1 EW (Early Starter)

If Poulter gets his irons dialled in he should be threat on this course, given that despite the rain accuracy should still take precedence over power this week.  Not tipped for the outright as I am not convinced his ball striking will be solid enough for all 4 days, but as a 66/1 shot to hold the lead after round 1, a streaky putter like Poulter is worth a wager.

Marc Leishman– 100/1 EW (Late Starter)

Talented Aussie who performed brilliantly at the Masters (leading after Round 1 there) and is a player who hits plenty of fairways and greens, I was really impressed with his attitude, and game, at Augusta and looks like a solid character who should suit the tough US Open conditions.  Three of his last 6 opening rounds have been rounds of 66, something along those lines on Thursday would put us him in the picture for a place.

Brian Stuard – 250/1 EW (Late Starter)

Horrible recent form outside of a 22nd place finish at the Crowne Plaza invitational, but worry not – he shot 65-64 in qualifying for this event and had good opening rounds earlier in the season at the Sony and Puerto Rico opens.  Definitely a long shot and is on debut at the US Open, there have been plenty of longs hot Rd 1 leaders (and winners for that matter) this season –no reason that Stuard could not continue this trend.  Straight driver of the ball who hits plenty of greens, also a ranked 37th in strokes gained putting suggests he has the right type of game for the course, may lack experience to feature overall, but FRL is possible.
