The Tour Championship and the FedEx Playoffs, the richest prize in golf has its climax this week on the East Lake course in Atlanta, this has been a fantastic season golf, Woods returning to his best but still Major-less, Big Phil winning the Open, our own Justin Rose taking the US Open and Duff Daddy winning the PGA Championship – fantastic. The PGA tour season comes to climax this week with 30 of the world’s best battling it out over a great test.

The 7,154 yard Par 70 course is the perfect place to host the finale of the playoffs, it was the home course of the great Bobby Jones and has a tumultuous story of its own; from Ryder Cup host course, to run down inner city playground and back to host the richest prize in golf.
Scrambling, scrambling and more scrambling; that looks to be a key indicator at East Lake, all of the winners here since 2008 have finished in the top 5 or so of scrambling; apart from Bill Haas in 2011. Distance from the tee seems to play some part here, excluding Fuyrk all the recent winners have been in the top half of distance from the tee for the week, now someone like Snedeker is not long, but has enough pop off the tee to make a difference on reachable Par’s and long 3’s and 4’s. I have selected players I feel provide value in this extremely strong field, if they sneak a place that should ensure our money back at the very least, should we secure the winner, a tidy profit awaits us!
Could be a long drawn out event despite the 30 man field, the weather is looking gnarly as we approach the weekend with heavy rain and lightening expected to roll in and is bound to disrupt proceedings at some points. With the reduced field the bookies are paying a relatively generous 4 places at ¼ of the odds for EW bets so let us hope our 2 selections below score us a least a place.
Jason Day – 20/1 EW @ Ladbrokes
Finished 4th last week and has played reasonably well here in his 2 previous appearances, finishing 17th in 2010 and 6th in 2011; I like his mixture of Power from the tee and scrambling/putting ability which has proven a winning recipe for the likes of Woods and Mickelson on this course before. Seems to feature in every major championship at some stage, if that trend of performing when it matters continues, he should give us a good run this week.
Charl Schwartzel – 33/1 EW @ Ladbrokes
More of a price play here, Schwartzel has not had the hottest scrambling/putting over the summer – is he had he would have won a couple of times by now, minimum. His scrambling and putting showed a marked improvement last week, ranked 12th and 7th respectively and was ranked 5th in driving distance. I have backed quality, Schwartzel may lack the course knowledge of the majority of the field, but has all the attributes to succeed this week.
if you were to place £5 each way on Charl Schwarzel @ 33/1 with Ladbrokes, and he wins you could win a whopping £216.25!
