Everton host Wigan in the first of the weekend’s FA Cup quarter-final ties at lunchtime on Saturday, in what should be a buzzing atmosphere at Goodison Park.

It is little wonder Everton are such a prohibitive price to win this match, with the odds of 4/9 reflecting the fact that the Toffees have lost just three of their last 31 matches in all competitions at Goodison Park.  And what makes that record even more impressive is that Everton have kept only one clean sheet in their last fourteen home matches.  Everton’s route to this stage of the competition has seen them dispose of Cheltenham, Bolton and Oldham and David Moyes should field a strong side as he plots a route to Wembley.

We have reached that stage in the season when Wigan attempt their customary Houdini-like escape act from relegation, and surely that is where Roberto Martinez’s focus will lie.  Despite an attractive price for Wigan to win, I just don’t see that Martinez will be making a huge effort to win the tie.  If you are looking for a reason to back The Latics, then their away form should give you plenty of confidence as they have won five of their last eight matches on the road in all competitions.  And Wigan last failed to score on their travels back in December when they lost 3-0 to Newcastle.

Two outcomes are likely in this match, one is that Everton will win and the other is that neither side will keep a clean sheet.  A bet at 4/9 for Everton to win offers little in the way of value, but the both teams to score bet is overpriced at 10/11 and offers a solid opportunity to win some cash.
