Horse racing betting tips for the 4.00pm Investec Derby at Epsom on Saturday.

The Investec Derby is the jewel in the crown of the British horse racing calendar.  This famous and prestigious race over 1m4f for 3 year-old colts attracts the best horses in training and has been won by the likes of Sea The Stars, Nijinsky, Shergar to name but a few.

Godolphin have decided to go with a three pronged attack in the form of True Story, Pinzolo (50/1 Betfred) and Sudden Wonder (66/1 bet365) with first named the pick of the trio.  True Story (12/1 Ladbrokes) was mightily impressive in the Fielden before being beaten at odds-on in the Dante but that form has been franked recently with The Grey Gatsby winning the French Derby.

AROD (16/1 SkyBet) also featured in the Dante and was seen rattling home that day.  The trainer has stated that this horse would be much better on firmer ground and if Epsom continues to dry out he'd have a huge chance of making the frame.

Unlike the aforementioned horse, Kingston Hill (7/1 William Hill) will need the heaven’s to open and the ground to soften to be seen to best effect.  He's shown he has the class to contest and win Group 1 contests but will have to improve on his 2,000 Guineas running to have a say in the finish.

Of the non O'Brien trained Irish raiders both Ebanoran (16/1 Ladbrokes) and Fascinating Rock (14/1 William Hill) come here in good form after battling out the finish in the Derrinstown trial which is normally quite informative.  They comfortably beat Geoffrey Chaucer (8/1 bet365) from the O'Brien stable that day but that horse was having his seasonal reappearance and should come on a good deal for the run.

Despite the support behind Geoffrey Chaucer, Aidan O'Brien believes he has the ace in the pack in AUSTRALIA (6/4 Betfred).  Herald as one of the best horses to be trained at Ballydoyle, this horse ran a blinder in the 2,000 Guineas and, on breeding, should relish the step-up in trip.  By Galileo, a winner of the Derby, out of Quija Board, a winner of the Oaks, this horse has the best pedigree in this field and should prove very difficult to beat.

Others to note include Orchestra (14/1 bet365) and Kingfisher (66/1 Coral) who could both outrun their respective odds, as could Western Hymn (14/1 Ladbrokes) who arrives here unbeaten.

Customarily this contest attracts a field filled with good quality horses and, although this year looks no different, AUSTRALIA looks to have a great deal going for him and should justify his position at the head of the market.  Everything looks to be in this colt’s favour and he should prove very difficult to beat.  If the ground remains on the firm side of good I would expect to see AROD contesting the places come the finish.
