The Ashes series resumes on Thursday after a short break with the third test getting underway at Old Trafford and we have got two betting tips for the test.

England go in to the match with a 2-0 series lead and have made a few changes to their 14 man squad while Australia have had some time to regroup after their wobbly batting display in the first two tests. We take a look at the betting for the match at Old Trafford and provide our tips.

Ladbrokes are providing our prices for this event and are running a fantastic promotion of refunding any losing third test match winner bets if Joe Root top scores in England’s first innings – click here for more details.

England have looked good so far in the series and can retain the Ashes with a win in the third test. They have made a number of changes to their squad for the match with Steven Finn and Graham Onions dropped and Monty Panesar and Chris Tremlett coming in. Batsman James Taylor has also been brought in as cover for Kevin Pietersen who looks like he will recover from his calf injury in time for the match. The hosts got off to a shaky start but batted well in the second test. Joe Root and Ian Bell were the stars with Bell making 109 in the first innings and Root making a huge 180 in the second to lead England to a comprehensive 347 run win.

Root, Bell and Jonathan Trott have proven themselves to be England’s biggest threat with the bat and they will be hoping to inflict more misery on Australia in the upcoming test match. However, captain Alastair Cook and Kevin Pietersen have failed to make an impact with the bat so far and they will be hoping to change that with a high scoring performance in the third test. England have bowled brilliantly in the series with Jimmy Anderson and Graham Swann particularly impressing. Swann took 9 match wickets in the second test and Anderson has taken 13 so far in the series. With England bringing in Tremlett and Panesar it gives them even more bowling options which could prove very effective in providing variation in attack. If England bowled and batted the way they did in the second test then they shouldn’t have much problem winning the third test and retaining the Ashes.

However, Australia have had some time to regroup after back to back test losses and try and gain some confidence going into this match. The Aussies have batted woefully so far in the series and they really need their batsmen to step up to try and help out the bowlers, who have actually played reasonably well in the series so far. Like Alastair Cook, Aussie captain Michael Clarke hasn’t made much impact so far, other than a reasonable 51, and will be hoping he can lead his team to at least one test win in this series.

Ashton Agar and Brad Haddin batted well in the first test but the second test was a disaster from the Australians and none of their players have made a century in the series so far. The Aussies have bowled pretty well which is one upside for them with Ryan Harris and Peter Siddle impressing so far. If they can find a balance between solid batting and aggressive bowling then they have a great chance of winning the third test and getting back in to the series. Every game’s a must win now for the visitors and they have to kick start a run of three straight wins with a victory at Old Trafford.
