There is a bumper days racing on Saturday with six meetings taking place in the UK and Channel 4 televises 10 of the biggest races of the day. The feature race is the Group 1 July Cup and here we analyse that race and the rest of the live races, provide some free betting tips for the day.

It is the final day of the July meeting at Newmarket and it is the sprinters turn to take centre stage (3.50 Darley July Cup (Group 1)). Royal Ascot winners Lethal Force and Sole Power both hold leading claims to take home another Group 1 prize but face some stiff competition. Society Rock has proven himself very capable at this level and may be able to turn the tables on Lethal Force, however SHEA SHEA could prove too strong for both of them. Narrowly denied by Sole Power in the King’s Stand at Ascot the step up to 6f should play to his strengths and he should go close to gaining compensation for that narrow defeat.

Elsewhere on the Newmarket card a competitive renewal of the Superlative Stakes (2.40 Newmarket (Group 2)) looks set to take place. A bunch of unexposed 2 year olds will race over 7f and with little form to go on it is not a race to get too heavily involved in. For a selection RECANTED was an impressive winner on debut and should be suited by the trip. Brian Meehan’s 2 year olds usually progress from their first start and the race he won has been won by Meehan with smart sorts before. The opening race on the card sees several promising types clashing with the likes of Defendant and Prince’s Trust sure to prove popular. Godolphin have enjoyed some success of late and MUHARRIB is taken as some each-way value in the race. He took a while to mature and has needed plenty of experience but there ought to be more to come from him and can go well with a run now under his belt. The Bunbury Cup at 3.15 is very competitive as expected and a chance is taken on Irish raider BURN THE BOATS who has been in good form of late. He won a big field handicap at the Curragh last time out and ought to be finishing strongly over this trip. Up 9lb after his win last time out but still relatively lightly raced and can get involved.

Over at York competitive handicaps are the order of the day with the feature race being the John Smith’s Cup at 2.55. Stencive ran a great race at Ascot and is a leading player here but has been handed a tricky draw whereas market rival Educate has a handy berth in stall 7. In such a tight race an each-way chance is taken on a bigger priced runner in TRES CORONAS who has been in great form recently. He has a career high mark to defy which may prove difficult but he is in good heart and looks likely to run a solid race. In the John Smith’s Silver Cup at 2.20 MONTASER looks a worthy favourite after his win over course and distance last month. He is up 5lb after that win but won with something in hand that day and every expectation he can go well again with conditions to suit.

ANDERIEGO has a good record at the track with two wins from six starts and he bids to enhance that record in the John Smith’s Racing Handicap at 1.45. He needs to bounce back from a poor run at Royal Ascot but the return to York over a mile on quick ground gives him every opportunity to turn in an improved performance. HEERAAT has ran with credit in some top quality sprints including last time out when 6th behind Sole Power at Royal Ascot. He takes a drop in class to tackle the John Smith’s City Walls Stakes at 3.30 and looks to hold strong claims of winning at a track he enjoys.

Ascot also stages some top quality racing with the Group 2 Summer Mile at 2.30. Aljamaaheer is a worthy favourite after two good efforts in Group 1 company this season but a chance is taken on TRADE STORM to run him close. He finished just over 2L behind Aljamaaheer at Ascot but did come home well that day and with a slightly better start the stiff finish at Ascot should suit him well. Jamie Spencer gets on particularly well with this horse and he looks a solid each-way bet. Another competitive handicap is also staged at Ascot with a very open sprint taking place at 1.55. Robert Cowell has a good record with sprinters and runs three in the race. GOLDREAM is the mount of James Doyle and he was narrowly denied a win last time out at York. Up 3lb for that effort but he looks progressive and his consistent profile makes him appeal as the type to win a race of this nature.
