3.05 Goodwood

We have a third ‘Dual On The Downs’ on our hands here and I think that it will be Khalid Abdullah’s crown to win again as his charge KINGMAN (4/9 SkyBet) tries to repeat Frankel’s success.  Trainer John Gosden has been 50/50 about the ground, however he seems confident enough to let the horse take his chance and that is to the benefit of the racing public.  He looks a superb colt, especially when romping home in both the Irish 2000 Guineas and the St James’ Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot.  Kingman gets a very welcomed age-for-weight concession and his electric turn of foot should see him first past the post.

Toronado represents the elder generation and returns to Goodwood where he claimed this contest last year.  He looked to be returning to his best when winning the Queen Anne Stakes at the Royal Meeting, despite running flat in the final furlong.  Nonetheless, it will be difficult to give so much weight to the Gosden runner and this horse seems destined for second. 

4.15 Goodwood

The second best bet of the day comes in what looks to be a very competitive maiden for 2yo fillies.  SHAHAH (13/8 Betfred) was second on his racecourse debut at Doncaster, finishing behind a smart horse of Clive Cox who has an entry a very good race later in the year, and looks ready to break her duck here.  She showed a good turn of foot on her debut and was just outpaced in the final furlong so should have learnt a lot from that effort.

In what looks a poor field, Royal Razalma should be the horse who poses the biggest challenge to the selection.  She finished second last time out behind a horse who ran in the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot, and managed to get within half-a-length of him.  A repeat performance would give her a chance.
