Bristol City to Beat Oxford 7/10:
Bristol City were the second favourites for the Championship before Saturday’s clash with favourites Sheffield United and their 2-1 win will have put them right in the minds of many fans. After a shakey start they went about their business impressively and saw off their promotion rivals well and have extended their unbeaten run to 7 going back to last season. Oxford opened their season with a disappointing home defeat against Burton and have now lost 5 games on the spin. Bristol City are a division above and one of the stronger teams in that league, the second round should be beckoning.
Millwall to Beat Wycombe 8/15:
This clash is a Championship v League 2 affair and features a Millwall side who impressed at the weekend. Holloway’s men picked off a poor Leeds side 2-0 and will want to carry on that momentum. A nine game unbeaten run is the impact Holloway has had and a victory in the cup would only increase confidence at the Den. Wycombe also started their campaign with a win as they picked off Newport 2-0. Their League Cup record is really poor though and they have lost 8 of their last 9 ties, Millwall’s Championship pedigree should tell.
MK Dons to Beat AFC Wimbledon 7/10:
One of the stand out fixtures of the round sees the side formerly known as Wimbledon (MK Dons) take on the side currently known as Wimbledon. MK Dons opened their campaign with an impressive 4-2 victory against Gillingham while Wimbledon surrendered all 3 points by conceding an 84th minute equalizer. It hasn’t been long since these two met in the FA Cup two seasons ago at Stadium MK with the home side running out 2-1 winners then. It should be same old story here as they hope to carry on a good start to the season.
Reading to Beat Newport 8/15:
Reading could only start their season with a 2-2 draw but against promotion favourites Wigan and away from home this is nothing to be ashamed of. A last minute goal saw them robbed of all 3 points and against League 2 side Newport they should get their first win of the season. Newport lost 2-0 at home to Wycombe in their opening game and The Exiles have won just one of their last 11 away games. Reading’s class should show here and they should reach the second round.
Sheffield Wednesday to Beat Notts County 4/6:
Sheffield Wednesday had a daunting task on day one as they travelled to Brighton but they performed admirably and picked up a 1-0 win. Gillingham recorded an admirable draw away to Preston but this is another step up. Wednesday will be full of confidence and with County not winning any of their last 4 away at the end of last season, this could be a tricky game for them.
