England may have nothing to play for in this one but Costa Rica certainly do. The Central Americans have already pulled off a massive shock in qualifying for the next round but now want to finish top of the group ahead of Italy or Uruguay to avoid a potential match up with Colombia in the round of 16.

Costa Rica have been very impressive, quick and strong on the counter attack, they have yet to concede from open play at this World Cup. They deserve to be where they are 100% and have been vastly underestimated by the other sides in the group. They will be full of confidence against a dejected England side and will fancy their chances. The only issue here may be whether they rest players for the last 16, something which could hugely alter their performance.

What is there to say about England? They’ve been outclassed in both of their matches so far and at times barely put up a fight. Heading home the earliest they ever have from a World Cup, there was little confidence in the build up but no-one expected it to be this bad. Hodgson has already said he will make changes to give other players a chance – laughable at a World Cup but there is nothing to play for.

This game is a tricky one, Costa Rica look far too big at 7/2 but there have been suggestions they will rest players. Costa Rica have looked good at the back so far and a point guarantees them top spot, they may just play for that so I’m on under 2.5 goals at 10/11 Bet365.

Italy v Uruguay 5pm GMT

The real drama from Group D comes in this match. We will lose one of these two sides, a massive shock along with England going. Both teams sit on 3 points at present, with Italy having a slightly better goal difference. A draw puts Italy through while a win for either side will see them safely in to the next round.

Both sides have a similar World Cup, performing well and picking up 2-1 wins against England but losing to Costa Rica. Italy opened up with an impressive performance against England with Pirlo, Candreva and Balotelli impressing but followed it up with a tired and uninspired performance in their 1-0 defeat to Costa Rica.

Uruguay did it the other way round, the lacked any danger going forward against Costa Rica and ended up throwing away a one goal lead to lose 3-1. They were revitalized by the return of Luis Suarez against England who scored twice to give Uruguay a 2-1 win.

Japan v Colombia 9pm GMT

Colombia were strong favourites for Group C and have confirmed that by already securing their place in the next round. Ivory Coast are the only side which can overtake them and goal difference makes that unlikely (Colombia +2 to Ivory Coast’s 0) so even a defeat would mean they progress.

Japan need to rely on Ivory Coast and Greece drawing and them picking up a win here themselves. Japan have just a point so far after they threw away a one goal lead in their opener before Greece frustrated them in a 0-0 draw. They struggled to break down a resilient Greece side but do have some creative players.

Colombia have picked up back to back wins, beating Greece 3-0 and Ivory Coast 2-1, despite a late scare in that one. They have been very impressive, even without Falcao they have looked dangerous on the counter.

Japan know only a win is good enough for them and that results go their way and Colombia won’t set up to defend like Greece did.  This will inevitably leave gaps at the back and Colombia can counter in to them. Over 2.5 goals is available at evens with William Hill and a good bet here.

Ivory Coast v Greece 9pm GMT

The pre tournament favorites to go through with Colombia were Ivory Coast who know a win will see them safely through. Greece also need a win to get through and hope Japan lose.

Ivory Coast opened up with a 2-1 win over Japan before being beaten 2-1 by Colombia and they played well in both matches. They have a strong and quick attacking line up that will cause Greece problems.

Greece have been quite simply rubbish in both of their games to date, falling 3-0 to Colombia before grinding out an awful 0-0 against Japan despite being on ten men.

I like this Ivory Coast team,  they are strong and quick and when playing a decent side in Colombia, Greece looked very exposed. They are 11/10 to win here and definitely worth backing at that price.
