Supreme Novices’ Hurdle Expert Betting Tips

The Willie Mullins-trained Douvan is the favourite, and he's looked impressive in both his victories this winter.  Although he has barely been out of first gear yet, and his potential remains untapped, he's short on experience and this will be by far the fastest ground he's ever encountered.

Mullins is mob-handed here, with Shaneshill, Tell Us More and Alvisio Ville all lively outsiders for his dominant yard.  All three are talented individuals, but they also lack experience (only two hurdle runs each) and all three were defeated last time out.

L’AMI SERGE (7/2 Coral) is unbeaten this season since joining Nicky Henderson from France with all three victories coming by way of large margins.  The form of the wins also has substance with some good quality yardsticks well behind him.  He too has only raced on soft ground, but his action and pedigree (by King's Theatre) suggests the faster surface should suit.

Of the others, Jollyallan looks a leading contender but needs to step up on his overall level of form.  Qewy has done nothing wrong, but horses from the flat have struggled in recent years.  However, at huge odds, BENTELIMAR (E/W) (33/1 William Hill) is well worth a second look in our Supreme Novices Hurdle 2015 tips; he arrives here on the upgrade and will have e/w claims if his jumping improves.

There's likely to be a good pace on here – Sizing John, Some Plan and Tell Us More have all dictated before – and that should play into the hands of the class horses.  Douvan is tempting, and he could easily bolt up – but everything has its price and its hard to be hugely confident about his form.  Instead, the vote goes to Grade 1 winner L'AMI SERGE, a reformed performer for Nicky Henderson, who has plenty of experience, has some solid form to his name, and is set to relish the better ground.  BENTELIMAR makes most appeal of the outsiders, and should also raise his game on the likely quicker ground; he's well worth including as cover.
