Last year’s winner Sole Power has given Eddie Lynam some great days out to date. He has been in and out of form the last while, but one gets the feeling that while disappointing last time out at the Curragh, Lynam would have been getting the 8 year old in top form for this event. That should have brought him on following a break after getting up on his previous start in Meydan.

Muthmir is an improving sort for William Haggas and Paul Hanagan, but one feels this may be a step too far for the Invincible Spirit gelding. He won well last time out in France but he has yet to race against the calibre of opponents that he will face here.

Robert Smerdon travels here from Australia with Shamal Wind and has been lucky enough to secure the services of one of the finest jockeys in the world in Ryan Moore, who knows Ascot as well as any of his weigh room companions. Like with all overseas travellers, a lot depends on how the mare takes to the whole occasion. Again she is lightly travelled and this may be asking too much of the brave mare, although coming into the race in top form.

Mecca’s Angel is another worth mentioning, who is coming here on the back of three good wins, two in the UK and last time out when an impressive winner in Longchamp. Once again I feel the Michael Dods runner may struggle against the top Group 1 horses and with SOLE POWER leading the line, Lynam’s runner looks the one they all need to beat.

Currently available at 4/1, he looks the class act in the field, and although getting on in years, Eddie Lynam is sure to have him in top shape, and he can give Richard Hughes his second big win of the day all things going to plan.
