Toronado is currently trading around evens and could go off considerably shorter if the bullish comments by connections are to be believed, yet his short price doesn't particularly appeal and I would rather look elsewhere for the value.  With that in mind, SOFT FALLING RAIN (7/1 Ladbrokes) looks an interesting runner for Mike De Kock.  The five year-old rattled off seven consecutive wins abroad before coming to these shores and adding a win in the Joel Stakes at Newmarket to his tally.  On his latest start Soft Falling Rain finished a respectable second to Variety Club in Dubai in what I feel was a very good contest.  Form aside there are plenty of other positives for this horse – on official ratings he is the second best horse in the race with a rating of 120, he comes here relatively fit after a run in March (favourite was last seen 300 days ago), has won three times over this mile, add the in form Paul Hanagan in the saddle who has ridden the horse on his last eight outings, and you can see why if anyone is likely to upset the jolly he could be the one.

Tip – SOFT FALLING RAIN (NAP) (7/1 Ladbrokes)

I am hoping that Roger Varian put PERFECT HEART (8/1 Betfred) away purely with this race in mind after the way he won last time out at Doncaster (although that was on soft).  It was his first outing of the season so he is sure to strip a whole lot fitter today and a 7lb rise may well not be enough to stop him claiming another victory.  Considering there is not a single distance winner in this field it will be interesting to see who gets home over this 2m4f trip and with that in mind Perfect Heart could be a worthwhile bet.

Tip – PERFECT HEART (8/1 Betfred)

Trainer Wesley Ward is a character to put it politely and one of the more interesting folk likely to be in attendance at the meeting this week.  More importantly though, he knows how to train 2 year-old sprinters and certainly how to get them to burst out of the stalls with great ferocity.  I certainly expect HOOTENANNY (6/1 Coral) to have similar traits and, with a trainer capable of fielding a number of horses in this contest, the sole inclusion of Hootenanny speaks volumes and I will assume this son of Quality Road comes here with a decent chance.

Tip – HOOTENANNY (6/1 Coral)
