Liverpool v Man City Betting Tips and Predictions

Free football betting tips for Liverpool v Man City with predictions and a betting preview.

Luis Suarez was the man who humbled Man City in the Champions league, but this weekend the Citizens make the trip to Merseyside to face the chomping Uruguayan’s former team Liverpool.

Coinciding with the return of key players, both teams have been rejuvenated in the league of late and this clash is likely to be a closely fought battle.

Liverpool v Man City Predictons:

Liverpool are defending a 7 game unbeaten run, winning six and drawing one. Furthermore, the Scousers have only conceded 4 goals during this run and look to have put the defensive frailties that bugged them for much of the first half of the season behind them. Simon Mignolet’s return to form has proved pivotal in this run and Liverpool finally seem to have found some rhythm for the first time since the departure of Luis Suarez. The Reds have not lost at home since the visit of Chelsea in November; since then their form has improved dramatically and they once again seem like a team capable of challenging for the Champions League places. However, Liverpool faced a trip to Turkey on Thursday, whilst Man City did not face any such travel worries for their Tuesday night game at the Etihad against Barca. Will the extra time to prepare prove crucial in this hotly anticipated clash?

With Yaya Toure’s return from the African Cup of Nations, Man City have secured back to back league victories for the first time since Boxing Day. However, with Toure serving a European suspension, City desperately missed his ability to dictate the tempo as well as his sheer brute force against Barcelona as they fell to a 2-1 defeat. Before the game Pellegrini was confident that City’s players could step up in the absence of the Ivorian, however this proved not to be the case. No matter how much money they throw at central midfielders, Yaya is an irreplaceable part of their team, providing goals and assists as well as the innate ability to break up counter attacks, time and time again. Whilst City’s Premier League form over the last couple of months has been inconsistent, I feel that with Toure back, they will only improve and put more pressure on the leaders Chelsea.

City’s two previous games in the league have been resounding victories; pummelling Stoke 4-1 at The Britannia as well as a 5-0 demolition of a poor Newcastle team. With few injuries to worry about, City might just be gaining momentum for a title push at just the right time. After their shock exit in the FA Cup and their Champions League hopes hanging by a thread, the league may be their only chance of silverware this season. Pellegrini’s position would surely be under threat should he not deliver at least one title this season.

Liverpool are the form team in the Premier League at the moment and have secured three victories on the spin. Daniel Sturridge is returning to full fitness and looking almost back to his best. Philippe Coutinho has also hit a rich vein of form and is delighting the crowd consistently with his dazzling Brazilian skills. Furthermore, Liverpool’s once shaky defence looks to have beaten the early season jitters and is providing a solid foundation allowing The Red’s attacking players freedom to express. All in all, we are in for a great game on Sunday.

All the stats are pointing to a game with goals for our Liverpool v Man City betting tips. Liverpool have scored in 80% of their last 20 home games and conceded in 60%. Man City have scored in 95% of their previous 20 away games and conceded in 60%. This season, Liverpool’s home games against the bigger sides; Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea, have all finished with both teams scoring. Furthermore, in the past 6 clashes between Liverpool and Man City, both teams have scored.

Therefore, my first football-betting tip for the Liverpool vs. Man City game is for both teams to score.

The best odds are with Ladbrokes at 13/20. The odds are not particularly high, so this game might be worth sticking on a BTTS accumulator.

5 out of the past 6 meetings between these two teams have finished with more than 3 goals being scored. The most recent game at Anfield finished 3-2 to the home side. This game must surely produce goals, and therefore my second betting tip is for there to be over 3.5 goals.

The best odds for over 3.5 goals can be found with Bet Victor at 21/10.

City’s record at Anfield is surprisingly terrible; failing to win any of their past 11 visits (drawing 4 and losing 7).  However, City have had an extra two days to prepare for the game and will be the more refreshed team. In Liverpool’s previous Premier League game against Southampton, they grabbed a comfortable 2-0 victory away from home. This victory came after a Thursday night clash with Besiktas at home, whereas Southampton had a full week to prepare for the match. Both Man City and Liverpool have had midweek exertions and so I do not think there will be any advantage for either team in regards to their clash on Sunday.

With all the stats and all the form taken into account, I can only deduce that both teams are as good as each other. I think they will cancel each other out. Therefore my third and final betting tip is for this match to end in a draw. The best odds can be found with Boylesports at 13/5.
