These matches always throw up all sorts of strange stats and Sunderland have now had 4 different managers in 2 years. On each occasion, the new man in charge has had the Tyne-Wear derby as his second game in charge.

It's not been a good season for either side, with just 1 win between them all campaign. That came last week for the Magpies, who thumped Norwich 6-2. They showed some excellent attacking football, which asked the question of why they hadn't scored more often. Dick Advocat couldn't stop the goals flying in and he eventually made way for Sam Allardyce. Big Sam lost his first game in charge to West Brom, with just a single goal settling it. Tony Pulis likes to keep it tight and didn't give the Black Cats much space going forward, they will get a lot more opportunities here. 

Newcastle haven't beaten Sunderland since 2011 and they will be a confident mood after their glut of goals. It's no surprise to see these two teams in the bottom 3 when it comes to defensive records, with only Norwich shipping more goals. 

As defences definitely will NOT be on top in this game, I fancy both sides to find the back of the net.
