Epsom Day 1 Betting Tips – 4.00pm Investec Oaks

Horse racing betting tips for the 4.00pm Investec Oaks at Epsom on Friday.

The first weekend in June ushers in another pair of Classics with the Investec Oaks followed by the Investec Derby. First up on the Friday is the Group 1 Investec Oaks run over 1m4f for 3 year-old Fillies. Many great horses have won this race in the past and 17 line up to attempt to replicate the success achieved by the likes of Quija Board, Light Shift, Sariska etc.

Ralph Beckett has a cracking record with fillies and won this race with Look Here in 2008 and is represented here by both Regardez (50/1 Coral) and Honor Bound (25/1 William Hill). The former runs in the same colours as Look Here, has some good form in the book and could well outrun her odds. The latter won the Lingfield Oaks trial and, although likely to run a big race, will need to improve on her bare form to contest the placings here.

Volume (16/1 bet365) is Luca Cumani’s first Oaks runner for a fair while and he will hope to break his duck in the race with the Swettenham trial winner. She only just held on at Newbury to win by a neck and will need to step up once again. Amazing Maria (25/1 Ladbrokes) has some classy 2 year-old form in the book but it would be a tough ask to step up to 1m4f and to win the Oaks without a prep run.

Taghrooda (7/2 SkyBet) is the first of the Hamdan Al Maktoum horses and, despite impressing when winning last time out, the form hasn’t worked out at all so the other Hamdan runner Tarfasha (7/1 bet365) probably looks a better bet after winning a strong Blue Wind Stakes. In that race she beat DAZZLING (40/1 SkyBet) who was ante-post favourite for the Oaks for a short time and should not be ruled out if back to her very best.

From the same O’Brien stable, MARVELLOUS (3/1 Betfred) and Palace (20/1 Betfred) both hold chances with the former’s emphatic win in the Irish 1,000 Guineas looking a strong piece of form. Form which gives her the beating of Ihtimal and being a Gallileo filly, she’ll only improve for the trip. Palace finished well behind in that race and looks to have a lot to do here.

Of the rest, Madame Chiang (12/1 Ladbrokes) ran really well to win the Musidora which is typically a strong trial but further improvement is needed here at the top level. Ihtimal (9/1 Coral), as mentioned earlier has top class form but will probably have to settle for a place at best and Marsh Daisy (12/1 Ladbrokes) won a good trial last time out but looks, in terms of form, on par with Volume.

There are plenty of top fillies here and there are plenty of form lines which tie in with one another. Plenty of these could be Group 1 horses in time but I think MARVELLOUS brings the best form to the race and she’ll relish the step up in trip. DAZZLING was also touted as a top class horse and she could prove to be the surprise package in the race.
