Expert betting tips for the 3.20pm Gold Cup, the feature race on Day 4 of the Cheltenham Festival.

It's time for the big one and the highlight of the week, the Gold Cup. As with most of the Grade 1 races this week, it has the look of an open contest with plenty to consider and here are our expert betting tips!

Cheltenham Gold Cup Expert Betting Tips

Cheekpieces have brought Silviniaco Conti back to his best with triumphs in the Betfair Chase and the King George this season. This field will be more difficult to dominate and his Cheltenham form hasn't reached the heights of his efforts elsewhere but he is still a worthy favourite.

Many Clouds has taken massive steps forward this season, unbeaten in three starts including the Hennessy and most recently the Betbright Cup. He has all the tools to be a legitimate contender but, bar a freak tropical rainstorm, the ground is likely to be far too quick for him.

Holywell has not been anywhere close to his best this season but the last two years he has turned up at the Festival in top form to take home two handicap prizes. He showed he could mix it at the top level at Aintree last year and, while a massive step up is required on what we have seen of late, that is entirely possible.

ROAD TO RICHES (E/W) (11/1 Paddy Power) has come on leaps and bounds this season from turning the usually competitive Galway Plate into a procession in July to scoring in the Lexus at Christmas. An absence since is a slight worry but conditions should be right up his street and this improver looks one to stay on the right side of.

Lord Windermere won on similar underfoot conditions last year having won the RSA in 2013. Cheltenham in March is clearly a happy hunting ground so, although he hasn't been at his best this year, this will have been connections’ long term target.

The Giant Bolster is one at a big price to consider having run so well in this race in past years. Chances are with Coneygree taking them along at a proper clip this could turn into a real war of attrition which might play right into his hooves.

At least half the field will harbour realistic hopes of being placed making this a really tricky betting proposition. I've been keen on ROAD TO RICHES for a while and hopefully he can live up to his name!
