Cheltenham Day 2 Tips for the RSA Chase (2.10pm 15th March)

The RSA Chase comes the race before the Cheltenham day 2 feature, the Queen Mother Champion Chase and Might Bite looks the horse to beat in this one.

Our RSA Chase preview comes with a Cheltenham day 2 betting tip and it is hard to look past the current favourite, but is there any value in the rest of the market? Our Cheltenham tipster has had a look at some bigger odds horses for the RSA Chase 2017.

2017 RSA Chase Betting Tips

Nicky Henderson’s Might Bite is the current 3/1 favourite for the race and he was very unlucky when falling at the last at Kempton when well clear on Boxing Day. His cruising speed will see him go close here and if his jumping stands up he should win the race, but a fall last time out is always a worry, especially given the test of Cheltenham. His recent run at Doncaster will have installed confidence back in the horse and seen his odds shorten once again for the RSA Chase. The 99 length win had something to do with that (it was a 3 horse race with the second favourite falling).

Coney Island is next in the betting for the 2017 RSA Chase. He was a heavily backed favourite when second to Our Duke at Leopardstown. He is another strong traveller and if we get good spring ground at the Cheltenham Festival then he is certainly in with a chance, especially given Might Bite’s fall last at Kempton. Coney Island is currently 10/1 with William Hill for the RSA Chase.

Alpha Des Obeaux pushed Thistlecrack in last year’s World Hurdle but he hasn’t looked as good since switching to chasing and that immediately sets alarm bells ringing for the Cheltenham Festival betting. You won’t win the RSA Chase without a near faultless jumping display.

One horse of real interest is American. He is currently best odds 12/1 for the RSA Chase using William Hill’s non-runner insurance offer and Harry Fry has said there are two options for the horse. Either the RSA Chase or National Hunt Chase on day 2 of the Cheltenham Festival. He put in a great round of jumping in just his second start over fences and will come on again for that experience. If they decide to take him down the RSA route then the 12/1 odds are a standout bet for the RSA Chase each-way. Fry has admitted he is a fragile horse and needs time between each race so no run since the 14th January isn’t a concern and he goes in as our Cheltenham day 2 tip for the RSA Chase. Bet on American each-way and use the William Hill non-runner insurance to ensure you get a refund if he doesn’t line up in the race.
